By Pastor Bruce K. Oyen and A. W. Tozer
The picture above is of A. W. Tozer. He was a pastor and author affiliated with the Christian And Missionary Alliance. He was born in 1897, and, like President John F. Kennedy and C. S. Lewis, died in 1963. The following prayer by Tozer is from chapter 4 of his very famous, must-read book called “The Knowledge Of The Holy.” This short but excellent book presents what the Bible says about many attributes of God, and how they relate to daily Christian life. Each chapter opens with one his prayers about the subject of that chapter, which in this case is a Bible study about the fact that God is Triune, that is, that God is three persons in one. This is a subject beyond our human comprehension, but it is taught in the Bible and Christians have always believed it.
Tozer’s Prayer To The Holy Trinity
“God of our fathers, enthroned in light, how musical is the tongue of England! Yet when we attempt to speak forth Thy wonders, our words how poor they seem and our speech how unmelodious. When we consider the fearful mystery of Thy Triune Godhead, we lay our hand upon our mouth. Before that burning bush we ask not to understand, but only that we may fitly adore thee, One God in Persons Three. Amen.”
