Thoughts For A New Year

By Pastor Bruce K. Oyen

We soon will enter a new year: 2014. We do not know what the new year has in store for us, but we know that God has it all under control. And we know that he has always been good to us in the past, and we can, therefore, trust him for the unknown future. We can take comfort for the future from Deuteronomy 33:27, the first part of which says, “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.”

Song writer John W. Peterson wrote an excellent song called “Just One Step At A Time,” in which he expressed the important truth that we can trust God with our unknown future. Here are the words to the song: “The future veiled before us lies, the path is hidden from our eyes, and Jesus leads while faith he tries, just one step at a time. Just one step at a time, just one step at a time; that’s the way he leads to glory, just one step at a time. The road he takes we need not know, but follow in the steps that glow, and trust in him as on we go – just one step at a time. Just one step at a time, just one step at a time; that’s the way he leads to glory, just one step at a time. We need not fear what lies ahead, nor anxious be nor filled with dread; the saints before were safely led, just one step at a time. Just one step at a time, just one step at a time; that the way he leads to glory, just one step at a time.”

Maybe you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, and therefore do not know the blessing of trusting him with the future.
